MELAKA-MANIPAL Medical College recently unveiled its new status as a university college and is now known as Manipal University College Malaysia.

The new brand was unveiled in a digital ceremony and broadcast online, where the brand was launched by Manipal Education and Medical Group India chairman Datuk Dr Ranjan Pai.

Manipal University College Malaysia (MUCM) is now poised to be a global new-age university college from the House of Manipal with a proven legacy in the field of healthcare education.

Established since 1997, MUCM aims to continue to provide the best in class learning experience to aspiring professionals and help them make a mark in the field of healthcare.

“MUCM has been a vision in motion for the past couple of years. With its birth today, we are excited to breathe new life to what is on offer in medical and healthcare education, not only in Malaysia but in Asia, ” said its chief executive Prof Dr Jaspal Singh at the launch.

“Through the education journey with us, we aim to drive a culture of empathy and continue to mould physicians who are not only highly skilled but also compassionate caregivers to society, ” he said.

With this upgrade, MUCM will now have the authority to confer her own degrees, broaden her offerings beyond MBBS and BDS, and contribute towards the postgraduate arena with master and doctoral degrees.

“As MUCM, we will seek to enrich the educational experience of our students – present and future, ” Prof Jaspal added.

“We will seek to advance traditional pedagogy into a contemporary form so that our students become thinkers and visionaries.

“We will seek to inspire transformation in our laboratories so that research forms the cornerstone of our student’s learning.

“We will seek to cultivate a teaching and learning environment that promotes multidisciplinary collaborations.”

He also acknowledged the support and knowledge-transfer received from colleagues of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), which is an institute of eminence in India and ranks as one of the top private universities in India.

Prof Jaspal said MUCM is the beginning of the evolution to become a full-fledge university.

“We invite you to continue to journey with us. Let us all be beacons of transformation under Manipal University College Malaysia, ” he said.
