Students from Sunway University and Taylor’s University share how their tertiary education is preparing them for the future.

I’m pursuing a Bachelor of Business, double majoring in Financial Risk Management and Banking and Finance. I’ve always had a passion for banking and finance. Furthering my education in the field is a step towards achieving my career goal of becoming a Chartered Financial Analyst. What I like the most about the programme is the content – the syllabus focuses on the development of essential skills and personality traits. It prepares us to face the real challenges of a work environment. -Wong Pui Yow

My psychology programme involves a lot of critical thinking, teamwork and active involvement in terms of speaking up and standing your ground. There are no right or wrong answers in psychology. It is always interesting to listen and communicate using different voices or perspectives. My lecturers teach me about the way human minds think or behave in certain situations which builds my critical thinking skills, reasoning skills, and communication skills. -Nur Alyssa Aqasha Mohd Rizal

I like the way my Conventions and Events Management course is tailored because it provides me with a better understanding of the events industry and how it works. Organising events is interesting as each function leaves a special meaning in people’s memories. It is exciting to work with people from different backgrounds as we are able to share our ideas to make the event more fun. As students, we are provided with platforms to network with professionals from the industry. Recently, I participated in the Malaysia Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers mentorship programme where I met a mentor who quashed all my doubts about the career prospects in this field. -Irene Ng Wei Na

As a Petronas scholar, I was offered the South Australian Certificate of Education International programme. It constantly evaluates students through many assignments and tests, which emphasises research skills which would be very helpful in the future. The tests also focus on analytical and problem-solving skills. I like the programme because it prepares us to be better learners, independent thinkers and creative problem solvers. -Kuhan Vellan
