Heriot-Watt University Malaysia is located in the vibrant city of Putrajaya.

Heriot-Watt University, UK has been pioneering the global higher education industry ever since its establishment as the world’s first Mechanics Institute in 1821.

Today, it is ranked highly across key university league tables, with recent placements among the top 300 universities worldwide by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020,314th in the world, 38th in the UK and seventh in Scotland by the QS World University Rankings 2020.

It is also the 35th in the UK and sixth in Scotland by the Complete University Guide 2020, among others.

Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (HWUM), which is located in Putrajaya, was opened in 2014 to bring high quality UK education to Asean students, through its foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate level programmes.

These include Foundation Studies, Accounting, Actuarial Science, Business, Construction Management, Data Science, Energy, Engineering, Enterprise, Finance, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Project Management, Psychology, Quantity Surveying and Renewable Energy.

HWUM continues in its endeavour to widen Malaysians’ access to quality UK education, by recently introducing its Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Scholarship for local women who wish to pursue careers in these fields.

Its School of Engineering and Physical Sciences lecturer Noor Shieela Kalib said, “As the first institute in Scotland to enrol women into STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) programmes, Heriot-Watt is no stranger to paving the way for gender equality.”

Shieela, who is also the WISE Scholarship coordinator, explained that with WISE, more Malaysian women will be able to gain access to quality teaching and learning that will give them a strong footing on their way towards successful science and engineering careers.

The WISE Scholarship reflects Heriot-Watt University Malaysia’s commitment to narrowing the gender gap in science and engineering fields.

WISE offers full or partial scholarships, contingent upon an interview with university staff, to those enrolling to either foundation or science and engineering-related undergraduate level programmes.

Those seeking to enrol in its Foundation in Science or Foundation in Business in order to pursue science and engineering-related undergraduate programmes later are urged to apply.

The deadline for application is Apr 1 for HWUM’s April intake.

Heriot-Watt’s commitment to be at the forefront of the ever-changing educational landscape is also reflected in its acclaimed Go Global Inter-campus Transfer programme.

The university recognises the importance of providing students with truly global educational experiences with guaranteed opportunities to study at any of its global campuses in the UK or Dubai at any time.

However this depends upon availability of the programme of study at their choice campus and if they meet the progression requirements.

The programme also allows them to choose the duration of their transfer for a semester, a year or more.

As a bonus, students enjoy a 20% waiver in tuition fees upon transferring.

In addition, the university has a High Achievers Scholarship (HAS), which offers fee waivers that range from RM6,000 to RM10,000 to foundation students who attain between 6As and 10As in their SPM, O-Levels, IGCSE or equivalent.

Those who enrol to the university’s undergraduate programmes can receive discounts of 20% to 35% off their total tuition fees.

Alternatively they can also get fee waivers of up to RM12,000, depending on their academic achievements.

HWUM is presently receiving applications for the April 2020 intake and those who apply and pay for their first semester tuition fees by Mar 31 will enjoy an early bird waiver of RM4,500.

The local campus is open seven days a week online with education consultants on standby to receive enquiries, which will be answered remotely.
