PETALING JAYA: The Star has been recognised for providing the highest English language media coverage of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
The recognition highlights the publication’s support in consulting UPM experts on relevant issues, especially in agriculture, and promoting UPM’s achievements and initiatives to a wider audience.
Receiving the recognition on behalf of Star Media Group was executive editor (Content Design) Tung Eng Hwa at a ceremony held at the UPM campus on Tuesday (April 7) night.
Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) was recognised for the highest media coverage overall.
The organisation took home RM1,500 in cash along with a plaque and certificate.
Other media outlets were also acknowledged for their contributions in various language categories, each receiving RM500 in cash along with a plaque and certificate.
Utusan Malaysia received recognition for the highest Bahasa Malaysia coverage, while Sin Chew Daily was honoured for their coverage in Mandarin.
Other categories recognised during the event included highest radio coverage by BFM Radio, highest online coverage by Bernama, and highest television coverage by Astro.
Farid Ahmad Tarmiji from Kosmo received the Best Feature Writing Award, which also came with RM500 in cash along with a plaque and certificate.
Meanwhile, UPM faculty of medicine and health science Assoc Prof Dr Haliza Abdul Rahman was awarded the UPM Media Visibility Award 2025.
UPM vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah said that the continued support of the media plays a crucial role in strengthening the university’s reputation and ensuring that its expertise benefits society.
“The role of the media in amplifying outreach, showcasing university expertise, and communicating UPM’s achievements to the public is highly important and greatly appreciated.
“This continued support is one of the key factors in strengthening UPM’s reputation and visibility at both national and international levels,” he said in a press release.
