THE New Era University College (NEUC) in Kajang, Selangor has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Talent International College (TIC) in Qinzhou, Guangzhi, China.
The MoU agreement was signed during a delegation trip to Qinzhou led by NEUC vice-chancellor Dr Mok Soon Chong. TIC is a private college in the Guangxi region with a student enrolment of more than 8,000 students.
At the MoU signing ceremony, NEUC and TIC were represented by Dr Mok and TIC principal Dr Lu Yaoxin respectively. The ceremony was witnessed by TIC Board of Directors chairman Hou Zhenmei, NEUC deputy vice-chancellor Dr Lee Kam Hing and International Relations Office head Gregory Goh Chin Seng.
Under the agreement, TIC will send its diploma graduates to take up degree programmes in NEUC. The agreement also provides for the setting up of a body within TIC to manage academic exchange between the two institutions.
TIC and NEUC have also agreed to set up a China-Asean Belt and Road Centre which will serve as an important platform for academic, business and industrial partnerships.
Dr Mok said that the TIC-NEUC academic partnership is a timely example of how institutions along the Belt and Road Initiative can collaborate and benefit from one another.
Under the partnership, TIC graduates can take up Early Childhood Education, Business Management, and Finance and Accounting programmes in NEUC. The first batch of Qinzhou students is expected to arrive at NEUC by September this year.
Through an institution to be jointly set up by TIC-NEUC, NEUC plans to develop specific courses to promote greater mutual understanding of China and Asean. NEUC will conduct Bahasa Malaysia and other Southeast Asian languages courses. It also aims to offer studies of societies in Southeast Asia including the history and roles of Chinese communities throughout the Asean region.
