Stepping up on fire safety

I READ with much sadness the recent reports of fire at the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah tahfiz in Kampung Datuk Keramat, Kuala Lumpur, where 21 students and two teachers perished.

There have been many fires at schools in recent years that should have alerted the authorities to come up with serious measures to prevent them, yet little seems to have been done to prevent such disasters.
