YEAR Five and Year Six pupils of SK Bukit Tampoi (A), Dengkil and SK Salak, Sepang were treated to fun English lessons recently courtesy of Retirement Fund Inc, also known as Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (KWAP).
The company, which has dedicated their corporate social responsibility programme to education, specifically in English learning, has been conducting workshops for primary schools in semi-rural areas since 2009.
According to KWAP’s chief executive officer Datuk Azian Mohd Noh, the Fun Kids With KWAP English workshops are meant to cultivate interest in the language by showcasing fun methods to learn it.
“The relevance of English in rural areas is not that prominent, and it’s a pity that these children are missing out on the big picture. Through the workshops, we try to make English language more fun, relaxed and relatable to them,” he said.
Azian added that schools’ feedback regarding the workshops have been encouraging.
“We’ve even had teachers asking us for our modules. Most importantly, the students go home with a new appreciation of the language,” he said.
The half-day workshops, conducted by KWAP employees, involve storytelling, descriptive exercises and analytical thinking.
Auni Kamarudin, 11, said she was eager to join the workshop.
“I’ve heard a lot about KWAP’s workshop from my seniors who attended last year. I’m so thrilled to be in Year Five because that means it’s my turn to join!” she said.
Meanwhile, Aiman Bahamin said the best part of the workshop were the tutors.
“My tutor read us a story with sound effects and acting, and he even invited us to sing along with him. I’ve never had a teacher like him before. All my friends felt the same about their tutors too,” he added.
