RESIDENTS of Taman Desawan in Klang are angry over the shoddy work carried out by a contractor in resurfacing the roads in the residential area.
They blame the Klang Municipal Council for the lack of supervision.
The residents also claimed that the contractor had failed to finish the full course of the resurfacing works.
S. Namasivayamm, 72, said he lodged a complaint with the council on the poor condition of roads in the area three weeks ago.
He said he was delighted to see the resurfacing works being carried out a week later.
However, Namasivayamm’s joy was shortlived. He said: “The quality of the resurfacing work is below par. They had carried out resurfacing on bad patches along the various stretches of the road. They should have resurfaced the whole stretch instead of just doing up the damaged patches.
“It has been about 15 years since the roads in the housing estate was resurfaced but the situation has not improved even after they have done so,” he said
Joseph Chua, 52, from Jalan Gambus 4B said the contractor had shortchanged the council by providing a very thin layer of asphalt (premix) on the damaged stretches.
He said the contractors had made the situation worse as the road had become uneven because they had not properly aligned the resurfaced area with the existing stretch.
“It’s now an eyesore. Many of the damaged spots were not patched up properly,” he said.
Yu Lin Yun said she was shocked that the resurfacing work was done only at certain stretches of the road and not the full length.
He said they had carried out the resurfacing on about 50% of the stretch.
“No other stretch of road in the housing estate has been fully resurfaced.
“When I asked the workers why they did not complete the whole stretch, they told me that they did not have sufficient material,” she said.
