THE public have been invited to take part in the MRC Heritage Walk in the George Town heritage enclave on Oct 10.
They will not only be doing their bit for charity but also stand a chance of winning prizes in a lucky draw.
The event is organised by the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Penang branch and its partner Kwong Wah Yit Poh to raise funds for the branch’s humanitarian work.
Event organising chairman Loh Nam Hooi said the event was organised for the second year in conjunction with the second anniversary of the city’s Unesco World Heritage Site listing.
“This year we’re working with several corporate organisations and companies to make the event a ‘company outing’.
“These corporate bodies will pay the registration fees for their employees to enjoy a healthy activity and at the same time, bask in the sights and sounds of the city,” he told reporters.
He said prizes up for grabs in the lucky draw included a Honda motorcycle and hotel stay vouchers.
Sponsors for the event include Zhulian Marketing Sdn Bhd and Kwong Wah Yit Poh which donated RM10,000 and RM5,000 respectively. Dell Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd donated a laptop computer.
State Local Government and Traffic Management Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow is scheduled to flag off the event and lead the VIP walk.
Registration fee is RM30 per person. Each participant will receive a T-shirt that has to be worn during the walk in order to qualify for the lucky draw contest.
The walk will start at 8am and last for about an hour.
It will start from the Esplanade and through Jalan Syed Sheh Barakbah, Lebuh Light, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, Lebuh Cannon, Lebuh Acheh, Lebuh Pantai, and pass by the clock tower before heading back to the Esplanade.
