TEMERLOH: Lanchang assemblyman Datuk Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin reminded Rela personnel not to abuse their authority when discharging their duties.
Mohd Sharkar said that cases where Rela personnel had misused their power had affected people’s perception of the organisation.
He said they should also refrain from using their position to take revenge against others.
“All Rela personnel must serve with diligence to maintain the image of the organisation.
“It is my hope that they will be dedicated and enhance their professionalism to help the authorities keep peace and security,” he said after closing a basic training course for 110 Rela personnel in Kampung Belenggu here recently.
Mohd Sharkar, who is also Information, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman, said that all Rela personnel should participate in community events as they linked the people and the Government.
“Rela’s role is not just to ensure security but to give ideas on development in their respective areas.
“If all the parties give full co-operation, even small villages can prosper,” he said.
Mohd Sharkar said the Government would continue providing assistance to Rela when needed so that its personnel could carry out their work efficiently.
He said, since the formation of Rela, crime in neighbourhoods, especially villages, had declined.
Later, Mohd Sharkar, who is the state Rela honorary colonel, pledged a donation of RM4,000 for the district Rela’s activities.
