IPOH: Perak is set to be the latest location for a Social Security Organisation (Socso) dialysis centre, says the Human Resources Minister.
V. Sivakumar said there had been discussions with Socso to set up the dialysis centre in Perak after Selangor and Johor.
“Right now, there are four dialysis centres under Socso, namely in Klang and Shah Alam in Selangor, and Batu Pahat and Kluang in Johor.
“We have started with the early works, and the location will be announced by January next year,” he told reporters during a press conference at the Socso Deepavali celebration at Impiana Hotel on Tuesday (Nov 7).
“Currently, Socso spends about RM350mil on dialysis treatments for its contributors a year.
“For the past 10 years, Malaysia recorded among the highest number of kidney patients in the world,” he said.
Sivakumar, who is also Batu Gajah MP, said until October this year, Socso had donated a total of 1,171 hemodialysis machines worth RM46.84mil since 1998
“In conjunction with the Deepavali celebration, Socso donated three machines to Perak National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia (NKF) centres.
“Two of the machines are donated to NKF - Yayasan Dialisis Pendidikan Akhlak Perak and another to NKF - Persatuan Meningkat Akhlak Wong Peng Cheah Seah,” he said.
On Jul 6, Sivakumar said Socso spent RM334.67mil on dialysis treatments for its contributors in 2022 and receives 2,000 to 3,000 new applications from contributors for dialysis treatments annually.
Meanwhile, Sivakumar said the Socso’s largest Neuro-Robotics Rehabilitation and Cybernics Centre at Bandar Meru Raya is expected to open by early 2025.
“The construction is right on schedule with about 30% completion.
“We expect the centre to be completed by November 2024 and will be open by January 2025,” he said.
In February, he said the RM635mil project was in its second phase, with the construction of the superstructure, which was at about 12% completion.
