KLANG: The festive countdown is officially underway in Klang’s Little India, where over 130 traders have officially registered to anchor this year’s Deepavali Bazaar.
Set along the bustling stretch of Lorong Tingkat, just off the main thoroughfare of Jalan Tengku Kelana, this year’s market promises an immersive cultural experience packed with colour, tradition, and community spirit.
Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) Licensing Department director Mohd Izzat Mokhtar said the council had offered 142 trading lots and 132 have registered for the balloting scheduled tomorrow (Sept 30).
This year the two-week bazaar will rund from Oct 25 to Nov 7.
“Our records show that registered traders include 74 to sell festive necessities, 20 (fireworks) and 19 (balloons and henna drawing). The 19 who are currently operating under the Traders Management Programme since 2018 will be allowed to trade at the same lots,” he told StarMetro.
He added that the bazaar’s location provides an organised, pedestrian-friendly hub directly connected to Klang’s commercial Jalan Tengku Kelana that is known for festive shopping, and draws outstation crowds.
“Most of the applicants are 45 and below. We are glad to have young entrepreneurs.
“The fee for each lot is RM580 as well as a refundable deposit of RM300 to ensure compliance with rules. MBDK had increased the refundable maintenance cleanliness fee from RM100 to RM200 that brings a total refundable of RM500,” he said.
Izzat said the increase in fee is to ensure that traders clean up after trading.
“For those selling fireworks, the fee is RM1,500 along with a refundable deposit of RM500. Traders dealing in selling balloons and henna drawings, the fee per lot is RM190 only.
“Those who applied to sell fireworks are required to obtain an approval letter from south Klang Police headquarters,” he said.
“There is a surplus of 10 trading lots for the bazaar and we will open it next week for a new batch of applications,” he said.
Izzat said the trading lots would be set up along Lorong Tingkat and the lane next to the Mydin store.
“Shopkeepers facing Jalan Tengku Kelana or Lorong Tingkat are allowed to display their goods on the five-foot way, but MBDK will charge them RM10 per day,” he said.
