NIGHTS of Fright 12 (NOF12) characters gave staff at Menara Star a taste of the scares in store at an upcoming Halloween event at Sunway Lagoon.
They visited several floors at the Star Media Group headquarters in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, including the newsroom and Suria FM and 988 studios.
This year’s Festival of Fear from Sept 25 to Nov 7 will centre around an “Ape-ocalypse” theme featuring a post-apocalyptic setting where primates have taken over.
It taps into the primal fear of being hunted, with visitors coming face to face with chainsaw-wielding apes that see humans as their next prey.
It gives NOF12 its central identity, while the other attractions explore different horror genres and storytelling styles.
This 12th edition features eight haunted houses, a haunted theatre, three scare zones, 11 thrill rides and a show stage.
The key horror experiences include “Ape-ocalypse”, “Yokai Road”, “The Freezer: Fresh Meat”, “Little Shop of Horrors: Manga UV 3D”, “The Not-So-Wonderful Wizard of Oz”, “Return to Silent Hill”, “The Romeos and Juliet”, “Scary Tales Theatre: Pontianak vs Pocong” and “Horrorwood Wax Museum”.
Beyond the main theme, this year’s line-up also offers new takes on familiar horror, with “Little Shop of Horrors: Manga UV 3D” reimagining the cult horror film as an anime manga-inspired experience with ultraviolet effect and immersive 3D visuals.
The festival also draws on local folklore with “Scary Tales Theatre: Pontianak vs Pocong”, which explores the origins of the two supernatural figures popular in Malaysian culture.
The attractions are designed to put visitors in each horror setting, rather than having them simply watch the scares unfold.
Nights of Fright runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 7.30pm to 11.30pm.
