AHEAD of Royal Klang Club’s (RKC) 125th anniversary celebrations, the area surrounding the historic clubhouse is being spruced up.
This is in preparation for the visit by Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah who is its royal patron.
He is expected to be accompanied by Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.
Klang mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) was enhancing the soft landscape, resurfacing the entrance into RKC and adding foliage lighting along Jalan Istana.
Earlier this month, Abd Hamid met up with the club’s president Kenny Lee to discuss preparations for the royal visit on Aug 29.
It marks the start of the anniversary celebrations with the theme, Embracing the New Horizon.
Abd Hamid told the media that the beautification initiatives included landscaping works, such as the planting of ornamental trees, flowering shrubs, maintenance of green spaces and the installation of decorative features.
“MBDK’s Landscape and Recreational Department will loan several potted leafy plants with lighting for the main entrance into the club,” he added.
According to Abd Hamid, the Engineering Department would recheck the street lighting infrastructure along the main access road of Jalan Istana to ensure improved visibility, safety and accessibility for motorists and pedestrians.
“The enhanced lighting is expected to facilitate smooth traffic movement as we expect to see a high volume of vehicles.
“Outside, the immediate preparations for the royal visit, the infrastructure and landscape enhancements will provide lasting benefits to residents, tourists and members of the club, contributing to a safer, more aesthetically pleasing urban environment,” Abd Hamid added.
Lee said RKC was grateful for the facelift surrounding the club’s premises.
“We have planned several activities to celebrate the quasquicentennial milestone,” he said.
“There will be inter-club games over two weekends in September, family day and fun walk on Sept 6 and a gala dinner on Oct 10.”
Abd Hamid was accompanied by MDBK Landscape and Recreational Department deputy director Azzura Zainal, Engineering Department director Mohd Zaidi Zainal and Environmental Services Department director Zaireezal Ahmad Zainuddin.
