Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) has reaffirmed that robust enterprise risk management (ERM) and sustainability principles are fundamental to its daily operations.
As Malaysia’s largest water services provider, the company serves over 9.6 million consumers across Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
This commitment was recently validated on the regional stage after Air Selangor clinched two prominent awards and executed a pioneering national crisis simulation exercise.
Air Selangor chief executive officer Adam Saffian Ghazali said: “Risk management and sustainability are not supplementary goals for Air Selangor; they are foundational to our mandate as a critical infrastructure operator.
“The accolades from the Asean Risk Awards and the Global ESG and Sustainability Awards 2026 reflect the dedicated professionalism of our entire workforce in embedding a resilient risk culture across all functions.
“Simultaneously, our benchmark crisis simulation at the Sungai Langat Dam proves that we are actively pressure-testing our strategies on the ground.
“By strengthening our business continuity management (BCM) and emergency response capabilities alongside our strategic partners and stakeholders, we ensure the absolute continuity of safe and reliable water services while protecting the community and advancing the national disaster resilience agenda,” said Adam Saffian.
The recent accolades include the Public Initiative Award, which Air Selangor received at the Asean Risk Awards 2026 in Manila, the Philippines.
The event was organised by the Enterprise Risk Management Academy.
The award recognises organisations across South-East Asia that demonstrate outstanding contributions to community well-being through responsible risk management, proactive governance, and sustainable public service delivery.
The company was also recognised at the Global ESG and Sustainability Awards 2026, organised by Corporate World Intelligence.
Air Selangor was honoured under the ESG Leadership Award for Organisations category.
Additionally, Shamala Mary Arokiasamy, the Water Conservation and Sustainability head, received the Innovation in ESG Award for Individuals.
The recognition highlights Air Selangor’s efforts to align with global environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards and integrate them into its business strategy, operations and culture.
Air Selangor Risk Management head Thavendran Loganathan said, “As the leading water services provider in Malaysia, risk management, sustainability and ESG are no longer an option for us.
“It is now part of our DNA as part of our mission to provide the best experience to our customers.”
Complementing these strategic governance frameworks, Air Selangor translated its risk management strategies into action by conducting Malaysia’s first full-scale BCM, emergency action plan (EAP) and emergency response plan (ERP) crisis simulation exercise at the Sungai Langat Dam.
The landmark initiative marks Air Selangor’s first large-scale dam crisis simulation. It is also the first multi-agency dam emergency simulation conducted in Selangor.
