Melaka needs new hospital, says CM

Melaka government will request for a new hospital to be built in the state to address patient congestion and lack of parking spaces.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh (pic) said the matter would be brought to the State Government Council Meeting (MMKN) before the proposal was submitted to the Federal Government.

“Our population is increasing and the need for healthcare is also growing,” he told Bernama after the Melaka State Assembly sitting at Seri Negeri Complex.

Stating that he had recently visited Hospital Melaka, Ab Rauf said: “The hospital was built 90 years ago and can no longer accommodate the large number of patients.”

Commenting on public complaints about parking at Hospital Melaka, he said a multi-storey facility would be built by a private company.

“There will definitely be a charge to recoup the investment by the company,” said Ab Rauf.
