Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) is planning to reinstate a pedestrian bridge at Persiaran Subang Permai.
Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng said the original bridge, connecting the USJ7 LRT station to Easyhome Mall (formerly Da Men Mall) in USJ 1, Subang Jaya, was demolished to make way for a flyover.
The bridge was replaced by zebra crossings.
The proposed flyover was aimed at easing traffic flow for motorists travelling from the Persiaran Subang Permai intersection towards Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) and Federal Highway by allowing them to bypass the Persiaran Kewajipan traffic lights.
However, the need for a permanent bridge has resurfaced after the flyover project was cancelled due to rising costs.
“We have received many queries, particularly from LRT users, regarding the reinstatement of the overhead bridge,” said Ng.
Following a site visit with MBSJ engineers last month to explore rebuilding the structure, she said a proposed design and preliminary costing was drafted but not yet finalised.
She assured the public that MBSJ intended to reinstate the pedestrian crossing, with construction slated for this year.
“The proposal has to be tabled at the relevant MBSJ committee meetings before it is approved,” she said, adding that the city council would fund the project.
“We are trying to make the pedestrian crossing more accessible,” said Ng.
“MBSJ plans to instal lifts to ensure safer and easier access for wheelchair users, unlike the old structure which only had stairs,” she said.
According to Ng, the pedestrian crossing will provide users with an additional option alongside the at-grade zebra crossing.
She was speaking on the sidelines of a prize-giving ceremony for outstanding Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) top scorers from the Subang Jaya constituency.
