GREEN economy has been identified as a key growth engine in Selangor amid rising fossil fuel prices and sustainability concerns.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said this vision was outlined in the Selangor Agenda for Green Economy 2025-2035 which aimed to attract more than RM63bil worth of investment by 2035.

He said the plan included renewable energy projects such as solar technology and hydrogen hubs.

“Efforts are being implemented through projects such as a large-scale solar farm in Bestari Jaya, two waste-to-energy facilities in Jeram and a hydropower plant in Batang Kali.

“These are aimed at diversifying Selangor’s energy sources and reducing dependence on fossil fuel,” Amirudin said during the Selangor state assembly sitting in Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor in Shah Alam yesterday.

He was responding to a question from Muhammad Hilman Idham (PN-Gombak Setia) on the state’s plans to explore alternative energy initiatives

Selangor, Amirudin said, was also modernising its energy infrastructure, including accelerating electrification efforts.

“This includes promoting use of electric vehicles, building more recharging infrastructure and enhancing green financing.”

In a separate question, Danial Al-Rashid Haron Aminar Rashid (PH-Batu Tiga) asked whether the state had adopted development models used by international cities, and if local councils were working with foreign counterparts to improve services and planning.

Amirudin said the state had adopted the Smart City Strategy Index, which emphasised data-driven governance and technology-based service delivery.

Selangor was also implementing a transit-oriented development to strengthen public transport networks and reduce reliance on private vehicles, he added.

Local councils, said Amirudin, were also collaborating with external parties on initiatives such as low-carbon technologies and waste management.
