A UNIVERSITY and a local bookseller launched a collaborative book-donation initiative to champion literacy and inclusive learning to celebrate World Book Day yesterday.

The initiative by Sunway University and BookXcess saw some 120 books donated to the children of Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Taman Megah in Petaling Jaya.

The donated books are age-appropriate and include sensory elements designed to support children with varying learning needs.

In a media release, Sunway University School of Education dean Prof Malissa Maria Mahmud said initiatives like these demonstrated how education could extend beyond campus boundaries to make a tangible difference in the community.

“We remain committed to promoting lifelong learning and creating inclusive opportunities for all.

“By working closely with like-minded partners, we continue to champion initiatives that address real societal needs while nurturing a culture of empathy and service among our students and staff.”

The initiative also promoted literacy and inclusive education, showing how reading supports emotional growth, communication, and lifelong learning for children of all abilities.

“This collaboration reflects a shared vision between Sunway University and BookXcess to make reading more accessible and inclusive,” said BookXcess and Big Bad Wolf Ventures co-founder Andrew Yap.

“It is also part of our ongoing mission to empower communities through books and we hope they will spark curiosity, nurture imagination and ultimately open up new possibilities for the children at the centre.”

M. Sityviknendraa of Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Taman Megah said, “We are truly grateful for the support from Sunway University and BookXcess.

“Contributions like these not only provide our children with valuable learning resources, but also remind them that they are seen, supported and included. It means a great deal to our centre and the children we care for.”
