SOME 30,000 loaves of bread have been distributed at 20 mosques across Peninsular Malaysia by local bread manufacturer Gardenia Bakeries (KL) Sdn Bhd in conjunction with Ramadan.

The distribution of its Original Classic bread loaves, which began on Feb 20, is part of the “Cahaya Ramadan Bersama Gardenia 2026” campaign aimed at assisting those in need.

Gardenia senior marketing manager Ena Suhaila Abas said 138,500 loaves of Gardenia Original Classic bread had been distributed under the initiative since it was introduced in 2021.

“With the initiative moving into its sixth year, Gardenia wishes to continue in the coming years to help the underserved,” she said during a buka puasa event at International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilisation in Kuala Lumpur.

The programme continues at Masjid Alwi in Kangar, Perlis, Masjid Albukhary (Alor Setar, Kedah), Masjid Sultan Sallehuddin in Bandar Puteri Jaya (Sungai Petani, Kedah) and Masjid Habib (Tanjung Tokong, Penang) over the coming days.

As part of the campaign, the bakery also organised its “Cahaya Ramadan Sehari Bersama Gardenia” programme for 50 selected families, which included a day of shopping for Hari Raya essentials and a buka puasa event.

Ena Suhaila said RM25,000 was allocated as cash aid for Hari Raya preparations, handed out as duit raya to the beneficiaries.

“I am happy to see all of you sparing your time to be with us.

“It was a pleasure to shop together with you,” she told the gathering.

Present during the buka puasa were Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and Gardenia chief operating officer Derrick Khoo.

Nancy commended the initiative and called for more companies to undertake similar efforts.

“Gardenia has not only conducted a buka puasa event but has also helped those in need, including single mothers and their children, who are part of my ministry’s target groups.

“This will surely have a strong, positive impact on their lives.”

Nancy said the ministry had also introduced initiatives to support women’s economic empowerment.

“Program Kemahiran Penja-naan Pendapatan has attracted 1,188 participants so far, with monthly incomes increasing by between RM1,000 and RM1,500.

“Program Perantisan Kepim-pinan Wanita has also become a platform to provide guidance and improve the competitiveness of aspiring women leaders,” she said.
