HAPHAZARDLY placed cables along Jalan Jinjang Setia in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, have homeowners nearby questioning the situation.
The cables are not mounted on utility poles, but draped over scaffolding, fences and nearby trees.
Sections of the cables have been left exposed, with some parts hanging close to the ground.
They are in a residential area located in front of SMK Jinjang.

Long-time resident Tan Kok Sing said the cables were installed two years ago, but he did not know why.
He was told by the contractor that they were power cables.
“I was told by the contractor during installation works that the cables were for temporary use, but they have yet to be dismantled until now,” he said.
Tan said the exposed cables might also invite tampering, theft or vandalism.
He added that some cables were located near pools of stagnant water.

“There have been no incidents so far, but we don’t want to wait for something to happen before action is taken,” he said.
Community activist Yee Poh Ping questioned whether the installation had been carried out in accordance with standard operating procedures and whether the contractor had received Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s (TNB) approval.
“The cables should have been mounted on poles and kept out of public reach.
“This is shoddy workmanship,” he said.
Yee said he had written to TNB for clarification and requested that its engineers inspect the site.
