AHEAD of Chinese New Year and Ramadan, SWM Environment Sdn Bhd is reinforcing its operations to keep Johor’s streets clean and its environmental standards high.
Its corporate affairs general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin said 4,500 cleaning personnel have been mobilised to manage solid waste in Johor.
“Strategic planning has been carried out to handle the expected surge in waste during the festive season and long public holidays.
“Our operations will be supported by around 620 specialised vehicles including compactor trucks, open tippers and roll-on roll-off (RoRo) lorries,” he said in a statement.
He emphasised that this approach ensured routine waste collection and the handling of bulk waste, garden refuse and recyclable items would be carried out efficiently.
“The initiative allows households to dispose of additional waste conveniently during festive preparations.
“Residents are advised to place such waste at the side of their wheeled bins or in centralised collection points according to the collection schedule,” he said.
Mohd Norlisam urged the public to cooperate by keeping collection routes clear of parked vehicles.
“Blocked roads can delay collections, especially during peak festive periods. Everyone’s cooperation is crucial,” he added.
He also reminded residents to dispose of used fireworks and firecrackers responsibly in bins to prevent fires and injuries.
“The combination of heavy waste volumes and potentially hazardous materials requires careful management,” he said.
Mohd Norlisam said these measures aimed to prevent environmental issues and maintain cleanliness standards.
“With these preparations, we seek to support households in keeping their homes and neighbourhoods clean, while also ensuring our personnel can operate efficiently and safely.
“I encourage the public to refer to the solid waste collection service schedule to plan their waste disposal.”
Mohd Norlisam said the schedule can be viewed on community notice boards or by going to www.swmenvironment.com
