SK CORONATION Park in Ipoh, Perak, has established a multisensory room under the Autism Care Programme for its special education pupils.
The facility was provided by the state government via Perak Foundation under the Special Education Integration Programme (PPKI).
“Pupils with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) need educational support tailored to their needs.
“A multisensory room provides basic support,” said Perak Foundation general manager Dr Nasreen Khanum Nawab Zadah Khan.
“Yayasan Perak hopes facilities like multisensory rooms will provide lasting benefits to PPKI schoolgoers, particularly to help them focus and manage their emotions,” she said at the handover ceremony in conjunction with the “Naungan Kasih Autisme” programme, Bernama reported.
The programme, in collaboration with Pertubuhan Wanita Prihatin Perak and the state Education Department, is part of the foundation’s commitment to ensuring special needs children receive appropriate learning opportunities, regardless of their socio-economic background.
Dr Nasreen said Perak Foundation was also in discussions with the Education Department to fulfil other special education needs.
SK Coronation Park headmaster Fazli Mohd Zairy said, “It’s easier for teachers to teach when there are sufficient facilities.
“The pupils get really excited when they have facilities like the one we received today, which increases their interest and motivation to learn.”
He said there were 86 pupils with special education needs at the school and 68% of them have ASD.
