THE RM6.5mil flood mitigation project along Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP), to address prevailing flash floods in Puchong, will be completed soon.

Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han said remaining works included landscaping and tidying up around the project site.

“The project is 99% completed. Remaining touch-ups will take two weeks.

“Despite that, the drainage system is operational and is working well as there were no flash floods reported last month.

“I would like to thank Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat (ALR) and IOI Properties Group Bhd for contributing to the project,” he said in a press conference at IOI Business Park yesterday.

MBSJ contributed RM4mil, ALR gave RM1.5mil and IOI Properties Group added RM1mil to alleviate flooding in the area.

“The project includes installing an additional box culvert to help channel water from the vicinity to the Bandar Puchong Jaya retention pond located behind IOI Mall Puchong,” said Ng.

“The box culvert was unable to cope with heavy rain, causing water to overflow from the retention pond onto the road.

“With the new and larger box culvert, rainwater can be diverted effectively to the retention pond.”

He said the most challenging part was pipe jacking from one side to another of the highway, due to the massive amount of underground utilities underneath the LDP.

“It is one of the reasons why the project was delayed.”

The project, involving upgrading works for 306m of the irrigation system, was supposed to be completed in February 2024.

Other factors included construction works were only permitted at night when LRT trains stop operating, and obstruction of water flow in main drain as works were located within the existing drainage reserve.

Also present were Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim, deputy mayor Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali, MBSJ councillors Lee Jen Uyin and Ng Seow Chen as well as ALR and IOI Properties representatives.
