The addition of two four-wheel-drive ambulances to Malaysian Red Crescent’s (MRC) fleet will enhance the humanitarian organisation’s emergency response capacity.

The vehicles contributed by Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) will allow access to disaster-prone and remote communities, MRC said in a media release.

TH Group managing director and chief executive officer Mustakim Mohamad presented the ambulances to MRC national chairman Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah during a ceremony at MRC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

“MRC welcomes this meaningful support,” said Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz.

She said the vehicles were crucial for the teams that were responding to the north-east monsoon’s impact.

“These ambulances expand our ability to reach communities in remote and flood-affected areas.

“We are grateful for TH’s commitment to supporting humanitarian services for those in need,” she added.

The ambulances are equipped for off-road conditions, allowing MRC teams to access isolated areas where conventional ambulances may not reach.

Also present were MRC secretary-general Datuk Danial Iskandar Abdul Rahman, members of the governing board and senior leadership from both organisations.

Danial Iskandar said timely access to affected communities was critical as disasters were becoming more frequent and severe.

“These ambulances strengthen our capacity to deliver lifesaving assistance in challenging conditions.

“We thank Tabung Haji for supporting MRC’s mission to protect and assist vulnerable communities,” he said.

The new ambulances will be deployed to high-risk areas under the MRC National Disaster Response Plan.

The contribution, valued at RM570,000, is part of TH’s A’fiat Programme, which focuses on assisting asnaf and underserved communities.

This complements MRC’s ongoing commitment to provide inclusive and accessible humanitarian services.

Each year, MRC responds to more than 1,200 emergency calls and carries out over 1,500 ambulance operations, providing rapid medical care and transport to patients in urban, remote and hard-to-reach locations.
