Shahman is urging homeowners in the municipality to register their personal particulars on the MPS portal.
Ratepayers in Selayang will receive their assessment bills via WhatsApp messaging from June next year, in addition to the current e-mail and SMS platforms.
This move was among Selayang Municipal Council’s (MPS) improvement efforts for next year.
MPS president Shahman Jalaludin said the implementation of the new system was also in line with improving the delivery of information to ratepayers.
“Currently, our notification system for assessment bills is via e-mail and SMS.
“Since almost everyone uses WhatsApp, we will include this platform to send their assessment bills starting June 2026,” he said after chairing the council full board meeting at Menara MPS.
Shahman urged homeowners in the municipality to register their personal particulars on the MPS portal at mymps.mps.gov.my
“Now, only 35% of the total 231,261 accounts have registered on our portal to receive their assessment bills via e-mail and SMS. This is a low percentage.
“Many of our account holders said they didn’t receive their assessment bills; they must know that we don’t post the physical paper bills anymore,” he said.
He urged ratepayers to update their information, if they have yet to do so, for their bills to be sent via WhatsApp.
Shahman also urged councillors to share with residents the information to register and update their ownership details on digitalbil.mps.gov.my
“The assessment bills for the first half of 2026 have been sent out, so the WhatsApp reminder to pay their assessment will start in June 2026,” he added.
Shahman said the total collection for assessments received in November through the MyMPS portal amounted to RM60.96mil.
“This is cashless payment via our portal.
“Other ratepayers also pay online via JomPay, among other methods.
“If they don’t pay online, they can come to our headquarters to pay their assessment bills at our kiosk,” he elaborated.
Until Nov 30, 2025, MPS collected assessments for the first term amounting to RM66.61mil and RM58.58mil for the second term.
For the collection of assessment arrears, RM7mil was collected from total arrears of RM9.5mil, Shahman added.
