THREE Chinese independent schools in Sibu, Sarawak, received a boost with an allocation of RM20,000 each from Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker and Lanang MP Alice Lau.

Lau presented the Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants to Catholic High School, Wong Nai Siong Secondary School, and Citizen Middle School.

She said the funding supported the development of Chinese independent education.

The Chinese community, she said, had long upheld the belief that education formed the foundation of progress and advancement.

Through the dedication and perseverance of earlier generations, numerous educational institutions had been established over the years, including Chinese independent schools, she added.

“As privately-run institutions founded and supported by the Chinese community, these schools continue to rely significantly on contributions and encouragement from those committed to the advancement of Chinese education,” said Lau.

“Such support remains essential in ensuring that Chinese education continues to thrive and is carried forward to future generations,” she said.

Lau hopes the community will continue to support Chinese independent education.

She also encouraged parents to consider enrolling their children in these institutions, adding that they played a vital role in nurturing talent and shaping the next generation. — By ANDY CHUA
