THREE memorandums of understanding (MOU) were signed by the Batu Gajah District Council (MDBG) with private sector partners to enhance sustainable waste management and support the circular economy.
Its secretary Muazatul Adawiyah Muhammad said the collaboration focused on systematic and sustainable management of specific wastes such as used cooking oil and electronic waste (e-waste).
She said the MOUs reflected MDBG’s commitment to adopting a collaborative approach with the private sector in tackling increasingly challenging waste management issues at the local authority level.
“The involvement of experienced waste management companies enables MDBG to implement more effective, organised and environmentally friendly methods, while adding value to previously underutilised waste.
“This approach not only helps maintain a cleaner environment but also supports the development of a circular economy at district level,” she told a press conference, reported Bernama.
The signing of the MOUs was witnessed by state communications, multimedia and non-governmental organisation committee chairman Mohd Azlan Helmi during the Perak Clean and Healthy Programme (Best) at Dataran Komuniti Tanjung Tualang.
Muazatul Adawiyah said the strategic collaboration also aligned with the state’s aspiration to promote circular economy practices, which reduced dependence on landfill disposal.
Mohd Azlan said the programme reflected the state’s vision under the Perak Sejahtera 2030 agenda, which emphasised public well-being through the preservation of a clean and sustainable environment.
“The main objective of the programme is to instil a waste-to-money culture among the community through the Eco Green Market Programme and the adoption of the 3Rs – reduce, reuse and recycle,” he said.
