The Salvation Army Ipoh has launched its “Million Hearts Care Together” campaign to raise RM100,000 to support the education needs of children under its care.
Salvation Army Ipoh team leader Maj Tamil Chelvee Thagavelu said they hoped to receive donations from 10,000 individuals, each contributing RM10 towards the goal.
The funds would benefit 50 children from the Ipoh Children’s Home and Ipoh Boys Home.
“A RM10 note may not seem much but in the hands of a child, it represents opportunity and hope.
“We hope to celebrate the power of compassion and community, reminding Malaysians that when many hearts care together, even the smallest gifts can create life-changing impact,” said Tamil Chelvee in a statement.
“We’ve seen first-hand how education can break the cycle of poverty and transform lives.
“The funds will be spent on things such as school fees, tuition classes, school books and stationery and co-curricular uniforms,” she added.
The fundraiser was launched in conjunction with International Children’s Day on Nov 20.
Event guest of honour Datin Janet Yeoh also announced a RM2,000 contribution from her DJY Charity Team charity group.
Yeoh and several team members placed RM10 notes into a donation box as a symbolic gesture to kickstart the campaign.
“When we give a child the chance to learn, we are not just shaping one life, but are transforming families, communities and a nation.
“Every RM10 is a seed of hope,” said Yeoh.
Former residents of the Salvation Army Ipoh welfare homes also shared their experiences growing up in the homes during the launch.
