JOHOR government has allocated RM854mil under its 2026 Budget for roads, lighting and public transport.
Tabling the budget during the Johor State Assembly sitting at Bangunan Sultan Ismail in Kota Iskandar, Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said, “These projects will directly benefit rural communities by improving accessibility, safety and mobility.”
The breakdown includes RM655mil allocated through Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris) to maintain 26,568km of state, local authority, village and agricultural roads.
RM50mil will go towards upgrading and widening village roads, while RM45.19mil has been set aside for the construction and improvement of main roads.
RM27.04mil has been allocated to resolve issues raised in District Action Committee meetings, which will fund small-scale development projects.
Onn Hafiz said preliminary studies would be conducted on new road upgrading and construction projects, with RM1.15mil in funding, to ensure proper planning.
“For bridges and road widening works, RM22.76mil has been allocated, while another RM16.88mil will be used to instal and upgrade streetlighting infrastructure across the state.”
Under public transport, RM31mil has been allocated for the continued operation of Muafakat Johor Bus (BMJ) service which provides free and low-fare services across major districts, and RM1.42mil for the Johor Shuttle Bus Service which offers free transport to key destinations such as Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Hospital Sultan Ismail, Johor Zoo and Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.
Other upgrades include to Pasir Gudang City Centre Bus Terminal and Bandar Penawar Bus and Taxi Terminal (RM2.6mil); and digitalisation of bus terminals and installation of new bus-stop poles along BMJ routes (RM895,000).
“Another RM300,000 will go to public transport promotion programmes to encourage more Johoreans to use sustainable mobility options,” Onn Hafiz added.
