PETALING Jaya City Council (MBPJ) plans to build a carpark below power pylons at Desa Mentari flats in PJS6, Selangor, to address parking woes in the area.

Zone 24 Petaling Jaya councillor Farhan Shah Ridzuan said there was an immediate need to increase parking capacity as the lack of bays had led to residents parking their vehicles on the roadside.

“Based on residents’ feedback, the council agrees that a solution is to use the space between the flats and Masjid Al-Islamiah Kampung Lindungan for parking,” he said.

Zone 24 covers PJS5, PJS6, part of PJS7, PJS8 and PJS10.

Farhan said some residents had been using the space at the foot the power pylons over the last few years, and MBPJ wanted to create an organised carpark.

MBPJ has secured the use of the land there and approval has been given strictly for a carpark, following discussions with Tenaga Nasional Bhd.

“Our Engineering Department’s aim is to help make use of the space efficiently.

“We will have 600 parking bays,” said Farhan.

He said the project would be carried out in three phases and cover an estimated 2.75ha, with spots designated for women and the physically challenged.

“We understand that lorries and bonded trucks want parking space too, and we will plan for such vehicles accordingly.

“However, all vehicles using the space will need to register with MBPJ,” he added.

Farhan said it was important for MBPJ and Desa Mentari Flats Joint Management Body to ensure that only residents use the facility.

“MBPJ will instal closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras with speakers, a barrier gate system and lighting for better security.

“The project is expected to start in the first quarter of next year,” he said.
