Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) has increased its waste collection areas from 34 zones to 45.

This is provided for under the agreement with waste management concessionaire KDEB Waste Management, valid from Sept 1 this year to Aug 31, 2032.

In a statement, MPHS said the agreement, valued at RM18.7mil a year, also came with 45 roll-on, roll-off (RoRo) lorries.

The new RoRo lorries made an appearance during an event at Dataran Warisan, Kuala Kubu Baru, attended by MPHS president Julaihah Jamaludin and KDEB managing director Datuk Ramli Mohd Tahir.

Ramli said KDEB spent more than RM9mil in upfront payment to acquire the lorries and that each could carry up to 7.5 tonnes of waste at a time.

In her speech, Julaihah said the Hulu Selangor population generated between 5,000 and 6,000 tonnes of waste daily.

She added that the contract between MPHS and the waste concessionaire was in line with Selangor’s Solid Waste and Public Cleaning Master Plan (Pisppans) 2024-2033 launched by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

In a statement on social media, Amirudin said the state government outlined several strategies to enhance sustainability in waste management, which included developing landfills with leachate treatment facilities and waste-to-energy projects.
