SELANGOR has moved a step closer to its goal of becoming a digitally powered state with the launch of the Selangor Multi-Cloud Services (SMC).
Led by Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI), through its subsidiary SmartSel Sdn Bhd, the initiative aims to boost artificial intelligence (AI) adoption and speed up digital transformation across the state.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government had partnered with leading global cloud service providers to develop SMC, ensuring a flexible and secure digital infrastructure.
“SMC is part of the state’s digital transformation journey involving MBI Selangor subsidiaries such as Air Selangor, KDEB Waste Management, Selangor Utility Corridor, Smart Selangor Delivery Unit and Tourism Selangor,” he said during the launch in Petaling Jaya.
He said the system was designed to strengthen data resilience, recovery measures and enable faster application to improve service delivery.
“SMC also supports the state’s smart city initiatives and AI integration while remaining compliant with Malaysia’s Communications and Multimedia Act to ensure security, trust and good governance.”
Amirudin added that the initiative also aligned with broader Smart Selangor ambitions under First Selangor Plan 1 (RS-1) and the upcoming RS-2 framework.
SMC was developed in collaboration with VSTECS Bhd, Awantec Systems Sdn Bhd and Enfrasys Consulting Sdn Bhd, with support from global cloud service providers Amazon Web Services (AWS), Alibaba Cloud (ABC) and Google Cloud.
Amirudin said implementation would take place in phases, with early adoption kicking off in the third quarter of 2025 with state agencies beginning proof-of-concept projects.
The initiative will then expand to local councils, state-linked companies and other government agencies by early 2026.
By the second half of 2026, SMC is expected to be fully operational, delivering secure, scalable and efficient digital infrastructure to power Selangor’s digital ambitions.
Present during the launch were MBI group chief executive officer Datuk Saipolyazan M. Yusop, AWS Malaysia Public Sector country manager Hafiz Hassan, SmartSel acting managing director Ritzwan Rosli Mohd Rosli, Google Cloud Malaysia country manager Hana Raja, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence general manager Kun Huang and Selangor Speaker Lau Weng San.
