TWO key venues in Selangor for the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma) are currently undergoing upgrades and scheduled to be completed by April next year, says Mohd Najwan Halimi.
The Selangor youth, sports and entrepreneurship committee chairman said the works were focused on the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre in Section 13, Shah Alam, and the National Shooting Range Subang in Petaling Jaya.
“Maintenance and upgrading works are on schedule and everything is progressing smoothly,” Najwan told reporters after launching the Selangor Youth Convention 2025 at Dewan Raja Muda Musa in Section 7, Shah Alam.
Najwan also announced that Selangor aimed to recruit 5,000 volunteers aged 18 to 35 for Sukma 2026.
Volunteer registration was launched at the convention and will remain open for two months, with online registration available soon.
The convention, the first of its kind, drew approximately 500 youths from various backgrounds, including schools, universities and groups representing persons with disabilities.
State-linked agencies were also present to set up booths, including for the volunteer drive and Selangor Youth Council.
The event featured three forums centred on leadership, entrepreneurship, youth and sports.
Speakers included prominent figures such as footballer Faisal Halim, bowler Natasha Roslan, actor-entrepreneur Datuk Rosyam Nor and several assemblymen.
Najwan explained that the convention was designed to engage young people intellectually and academically, helping to prepare the next generation of leaders in mental, physical, economic and educational development.
Selangor Para Powerlifting president Mohd Nasriza Arizal Mat Saad, who attended with five para-athletes, praised the convention for giving youths with disabilities a platform to connect and gain inspiration for their own sporting journeys.
