Kapar engineering plant fined over dust, odour pollution

The engineering company was taken to task for dust, odour pollution and for placing a RoRo bin and materials in a public area.

An industrial engineering plant in Kapar, Selangor was slapped with RM1,500 in fines for various offences following multiple public complaints against the facility, which is involved in spray-painting work.

Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) Corporate Communications director Norfiza Mahfiz said three compounds were issued to the industrial engineering plant for dust and odour pollution.

“MBDK’s Licensing Department issued the fines amounting to RM1,000 last week including for emission of significant airborne dust that poses a possible health risk as it drifts outside the factory yard.

“The odour pollution occurred during the facility’s painting processes like mixing, spraying and drying,” she said.

Norfiza said the company had also failed to obtain a licence for engineering paint works under the Licensing of Traders, Businesses and Industries By-laws 2007.

She said MBDK has advised the company to implement air pollution control measures to mitigate health and environmental impacts.

“While at the industrial engineering plant, the council’s Enforcement Department officers observed that the company had positioned a roll-on roll-off (RoRo) bin and engineering equipment outside its factory that caused obstruction in public areas.”

Norfiza added that for the two offences, the council issued two more fines, each for RM250.

The action was taken under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133) for unauthorised structures or obstructions in public spaces. – By EDWARD RAJENDRA
