Ageing drains along the back lanes of Jalan Beberek in Kepong Baru have been slated for upgrades.

Works in the residential area in Kuala Lumpur are expected to take about 10 weeks.

Community activist Yee Poh Ping thanked Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for the upgrade, but noted that more drains in back lanes in the area needed upgrading.

He said residents had reported seeing rodents emerging from cracks and holes in the drainage system.

“Jalan Beberek residents have for the past four years requested upgrades to their back lanes.

“We hope the entire Kepong Baru and various housing estates nearby, which are more than 60 years old, are included for upgrading,” Yee said.

Resident Lai Kim Meng hopes DBKL will add facilities catering to senior citizens at parks in the area.

“It would be good if additional equipment such as an air walker could be installed to help us exercise,” he said.
