Mid-Autumn Fest talent contest open to kids aged 7 to 12

IF YOU are between the ages of 7 to 12, can sing, dance, play a musical instrument, perform magic tricks, note that there’s a nationwide talent contest that is looking for participants.

Organised by the 322 Action Committee, a non-profit organisation founded by Terengganu MCA chairman Datuk Monna Ong, this talent contest will be part of the Mid Autumn Festival celebrations held at Jalan Kampung Cina in Kuala Terengganu this October 11.

The winner will stand to win a prize of RM2,500.

The talent contest was announced during the launch of the 2025 Mid-Autumn Carnival in Jalan Kampung Cina recently. It was presided over by Jinjiang Association of Terengganu president Toh Seng Kee as the carnival’s organising chairman.

“The carnival is more than just a cultural festivity. It is an affirmation of community solidarity, cultural preservation, and intergenerational continuity, especially at a time when minority communities in Terengganu face demographic challenges and rapid urban transformation.

“This event serves to preserve our heritage, foster unity, and empower the next generation. By coming together under the full moon, we remind ourselves that no matter how far apart we may be, our hearts will always return to the same home,” said Toh.

He further added that the carnival, which will start with a complimentary dinner for the public at 6pm, to be followed by a lantern procession and a lion dance to greet invited guests of honour, was a collective effort.

“It is through unity, among associations, leaders, the media, and families, that this carnival will shine brightly as a symbol of culture, resilience, and joy for the entire community,” he said.

Highlighting the children's talent Competition, Toh urged families nationwide to participate.

“Our children are the bearers of our culture and identity. The talent competition is not only a stage for artistic expression but also a pathway for building confidence and resilience. I encourage parents and schools across Malaysia to actively involve their children in this meaningful initiative, ensuring our cultural heritage is carried forward with vitality.”

Deadline for entry submissions is September 30. Entry forms can be downloaded from the 322 Action Committee Facebook page.

Entry fee is RM150 per participant.
