‘Golden tree’ takes centre stage at KB palace exhibition
FOR the first time in its history, the “Bunga Emas Kelantan” (a flower tree made of gold) is on public display at Istana Balai Besar in Kota Baru.
The Kelantan Textile and Malay Heritage Festival, ending on Sept 14, also offers the public free entry to a place normally off-limits aside from special occasions, as reported by Bernama.
Office of the Sultan of Kelantan protocol officer Mohamed Safaruddin Ismail believes the Bunga Emas, the treasure of the Kelantan Sultanate, is a major draw.
The aim of the showcase – which includes various keris as well as traditional textiles such as tenun, songket, kain pelangi and kain telepuk – is to kindle cultural pride.
“The festival also features royal vessel ‘Perahu Petala Indera Sri Kelantan’, built in 1899 and used by Sultan Muhammad IV,” said Mohamed Safaruddin, who is also the festival coordinator.
Other activities include traditional performances and demonstrations on making quail traps, kain kelingkam and kain telepuk, as well as jewellery carving.
The festival, which is in its second edition, is open daily from 9am to 10pm.
