The All Malaysia Malayalee Association (Amma) marked its golden jubilee at a convention centre in Shah Alam in grand style, celebrating five decades of unity, cultural preservation and community service.

The landmark celebration brought together 1,700 people from all over Malaysia, including leaders from the Telugu Association, Sindhi Association, Gujarati Association and the Sikh community.

In his speech, Amma’s 15th president Dr Manohur Kurup expressed immense pride and deep emotion as he welcomed Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is the wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said her presence was “a recognition of our community’s contributions to the nation and a symbol of inclusivity and national unity”.

Manohur also said Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh’s presence at the event underscored the importance of engaging and empowering young Malaysians in cultural and community development.

Also present was Amma patron Tan Sri Ravindran Menon, Deputy National Unity Minister K Saraswathy and Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.

Manohur reflected on Amma’s founding vision for the organisation: to unite the Malayalee community, preserve its cultural heritage and contribute to the nation.

He highlighted Amma’s acquisition of its premises through the Amma Foundation last year, adding there were plans to develop it into a community centre.
