SHAH ALAM: Safriah Md Adzhar has been appointed as Shah Alam’s deputy mayor, effective Aug 1, taking over from acting deputy mayor Madiyan Baweh.
She is the first female deputy mayor of Shah Alam.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday (Aug 4) at Shah Alam mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim’s office at Wisma MBSA in Section 14, Shah Alam.
Safriah also took her Official Secrets Act 1972 oath and signed her integrity pledge.
Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) said in a statement that Safriah brings over two decades of experience in public service.
She holds a degree in Education (Guidance and Counselling) from Universiti Putra Malaysia and a Diploma in Public Administration from the National Institute of Public Administration (Intan).
She also holds two Master’s degrees: one in International Cooperation Policy from Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Japan, and another in Management from the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom.
Safriah began her career in 2000 with Intan, before serving in various ministries, including the International Trade and Industry Ministry and the Women, Family, and Community Development Ministry.
Before her appointment at MBSA, she served as registrar at the Health Ministry’s National Institute of Health from August 2019 to July 2025.
“Safriah’s extensive experience in public service is expected to drive MBSA towards becoming a leading and exemplary local authority, not only in Selangor and Malaysia, but also on the international stage,” concluded the statement.
