RESIDENTS of Taman Selayang Segar are calling for improvements to their public park.

They say the basketball court is poorly maintained and bushes and trees at the park in Jalan Selayang Segar 3 have not been trimmed.

Resident SH Lee said having a jogging track or reflexology path at the park could help people stay active and healthy.

“The existing facilities also need to be upgraded,” he said in a press conference at the park organised by community activist Yee Poh Ping.

Yee urged Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) to improve public facilities.

“There is still a lot of space within the park that can be used for a jogging track and other recreational facilities.

“The untrimmed bushes could harbour snakes or create breeding grounds for mosquitoes, posing risks for residents.”

He also claimed that many fields in the residential areas under MPS jurisdiction were not well maintained.

“We have lodged complaints with MPS many times, but were told that the council doesn’t have enough funds to upgrade the facilities,” he said.

During StarMetro’s visit earliest this month, the basketball court was missing hoops.

There was also a pile of rubbish and litter scattered around the field.

A signboard beside the field was also in a bad condition.

StarMetro reached out to MPS and the zone councillor but neither responded by press time.
