Cartoon fest draws people together

FAMOUS cartoonists Zunar and Imuda added to the creative atmosphere at the Selangor Unity Cartoon Festival that drew over 500 people of all ages.

The festival at the Raja Tun Uda Library, Shah Alam, was organised by Selangor Sketch Art Association (Saksama) and Selangor Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI Selangor) Foundation.

Event highlights included cartoon drawing workshops by indigenous artists, colouring and cartoon drawing contests and a shadow puppet show.

There were also art exhibition and stalls selling artworks.

Selangor Public Library Corporation director Datin Paduka Mastura Muhamad said, “Activities like this stimulate children’s creativity.

“Drawing and colouring are fundamental activities loved by children of all generations, even before they learn the alphabet.

“Therefore, we hope the cartoon art activities can create a space for young people to express their creative talents,” she said during the festival launch.

Mastura added that the activities held throughout the day aligned with the festival’s aim of fostering the spirit of unity through cartoon art.

She also said the festival served as a platform to bring together local cartoonists, art practitioners and the public to celebrate cultural diversity and noble values that form the foundation of the nation’s strength.

Also present were Kota Damansara assemblyman Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim and MBI Foundation communication manager Fazuin Mohd Yusoff.

Zunar, or Zulkiflee Anwar Haque, was there in his role as Saksama advisor.

Alongside him was Imuda (Datuk A. Rahim Muda) who is also a well-known comedian.
