TO promote early childhood development and strengthen community ties, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Sentul Raya Sdn Bhd, Toy Libraries Malaysia and YTL Foundation have come together to sign an agreement of action (AOA) to establish a community toy library at UTC Sentul, Kuala Lumpur.
The AOA signed at Menara DBKL marks a collaboration that aims to create a vibrant and inclusive space where children from all backgrounds can play, learn and grow together.
The Sentul Toy Library to be hosted at UTC Sentul, is in partnership with Toy Libraries Malaysia and aims to support the development of sustainable and family-friendly neighbourhoods.
As the local authority, DBKL supports the initiative under its community engagement and public welfare mission.
Toy Libraries Malaysia brings its expertise in play-based learning, while Sentul Raya and YTL Foundation will provide funding and support to ensure the toy library becomes a well-used and loved resource for families in the community.
Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif said play was a powerful foundation for learning and that every child deserves the opportunity to grow, discover and imagine through play.
“This partnership marks an important step towards nurturing a more caring and inclusive city for our young ones.
“I look forward to the official launch next quarter and I hope more partners and communities will come on board to help bring more toy libraries to life across Kuala Lumpur.”
Toy Libraries Malaysia president Datin Wong Poai Hong said play was a fundamental right of every child.
“With this toy library, we are creating a safe and stimulating environment that nurtures curiosity, imagination and social interaction.”
YTL Foundation programme director Datuk Kathleen Chew said, “We believe in the power of play to enrich children’s lives and foster stronger community ties.
“This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to ensuring every child, regardless of background, has access to joyful and meaningful learning experiences.”
The toy library is expected to open its doors to the public in the next quarter and will feature a wide range of educational toys, books and creative learning resources for children aged under 12.
The space will also host regular play sessions, workshops for parents and storytelling activities.
The initiative aligns with efforts to promote holistic childhood development and exemplifies the strength of partnerships between the public, private and non-profit sectors in building resilient and caring communities.
