PJ fundraiser for strays’ medical bills

Canine welfare association Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) is holding a fundraiser in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, this weekend to help pay off medical bills for its rescued dogs.

MDDB coordinator Kavitah Ganesan said one of the shelter’s biggest challenges was veterinary bills.

“Most dogs were rescued off the streets with multiple health issues, while some had severe injuries.

“Besides costs for treatment, we also face recurring costs for follow-ups,” she said, adding that most of the bills were incurred at Gasing Veterinary Hospital where all the rescued dogs are sent for treatment and vaccination.

The shelter currently has some 400 dogs, of which 15% are disabled.

MDDB’s fundraiser, dubbed “Project Gasing”, to help settle these bills will be held on May 3 and 4 from 11am to 6pm at the veterinary hospital.

Kavitah hopes the public can assist in the appeal.

She said the hospital had been very kind and understanding for more than a decade, and funds raised would go towards settling some of the outstanding bills.

Contributions can be made by cash, while cheques made out to the veterinary hospital are also accepted.
