TO BOOST social and educational development among young schoolchildren, a plantation and healthcare group organised a corporate social responsibility (CSR) event in Terengganu.

The “Ceria ke Sekolah” initiative was organised by TDM Bhd for pupils of SK Kampung Fikri in Sungai Tong, Setiu.

The event was also designed to strengthen ties between the company and the local community, the company said in a press statement.

“We choose SK Kampung Fikri because it is one of our plantation-area schools with the highest number of pupils,” said TDM group chief executive officer Najman Kamaruddin.

He said there were 122 pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 registered at the school.

In addition to group activities and distribution of gifts to the pupils, the event featured a chilli-planting activity.

Alongside TDM’s management team and school headmaster Mazlan Che Ismail, the pupils learned about chilli planting, with the hope of fostering their interest in agriculture, the statement said.

“As a responsible company, we focus not just on business growth but also on supporting education and promoting community well-being.

“This programme allows us to better understand the needs of the communities in which we operate,” said Najman.

The CSR initiative was carried out in collaboration with TDM Agrobiz Sdn Bhd, a TDM subsidiary involved in agribusiness.

TDM said as a company focused on sustainable development, this CSR initiative aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education.

This goal ensures students have access to quality education and basic school supplies.

TDM said it planned to carry out more CSR programmes for local communities to support societal welfare.
