Three tonnes of humanitarian aid have been dispatched to Myanmar by Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) following last month’s devastating earthquake.

In addition to the aid, which is part of a 15-tonne joint relief consignment sent to Myanmar, MRC also deployed two volunteers to participate in the humanitarian mission.

The shipment was coordinated under a National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) initiative alongside partners of Rakan Nadma Disaster Emergency Exercise (Randex).

“This mission reflects the strong and effective partnership between MRC and Nadma in responding swiftly to humanitarian needs.

“We are proud to stand alongside our government agencies and partners to deliver life-saving support to our neighbours in Myanmar,” said MRC secretary-general Datuk Danial Iskandar Abdul Rahman.

MRC’s contribution comprises 100 units of kitchen sets, 200 hygiene kits, 1,085 sets of sanitary pads, 94 blankets, 348 mosquito nets, and other essential relief supplies.

The joint effort includes contributions from Randex partners such as Tzu Chi Malaysia, Kembara Kitchen, Pertubuhan Ihsan Johor and MyCare.

The distribution and coordination of humanitarian aid on the ground in Myanmar is managed through a partnership between Nadma, MRC, Myanmar Red Cross Society and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

MRC is seeking donations to support its ongoing relief efforts.

Cash transfers can be made directly to MRC (Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah Malaysia), Maybank Account No: 5144 2210 7228 (reference: Myanmar Earthquake).
