SIX students from volunteer group EduforHope, based at international school UWC ISAK Japan, visited Malaysia to expand their educational initiatives.

Founded in 2022, EduforHope provides educational support for students affected by the ongoing civil war in Myanmar.

Since its inception, the group has delivered online lessons to such students in Myanmar and Thailand and is expanding to Malaysia this year.

Beyond weekly online lessons, EduforHope is helping schools in Thailand set up libraries for these students.

During their visit to Malaysia, the team engaged with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and partnered with several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to explore and expand their online teaching initiatives.

EduforHope volunteers also dedicated five days to working with refugee children at The Peace Education Centre (T-Pec) in Kuala Lumpur.

The centre provides shelter and education for around 60 children of refugees aged six to 17.

Many of these children come from families facing economic uncertainties, which limit their access to education.

In a media statement, EduforHope said the team aimed to encourage refugee children to envision a brighter future for themselves.
