A GROUP of scholars from University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) paid a visit to the Star Media Group (SMG) headquarters in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, to learn about its operations.

They were warmly welcomed by SMG group chief executive officer Chan Seng Fatt, chief operating officer Lydia Wang and chief content officer Datin Paduka Esther Ng.

The delegation from China began their visit with a tour of the Star Gallery, where they explored the media group’s significant milestones.

This was followed by a visit to the content department of The Star for insight into its operations.

Additionally, the visitors explored SMG’s radio studio, home to Chinese radio station 988 FM and Malay radio station Suria FM.

The delegation consisted of USTB vice-chancellor Prof Sun Jinghong, National Centre for Materials Service Safety dean Pang Xiaolu and Humanistic Quality Education Centre deputy director Han Xuezhou.

Accompanying them were the university’s Humanities and Social Sciences Office deputy director Li Bei, Facilities and Maintenance Management Department deputy director Wang Pengfei and Advanced Materials and Technology Institute associate dean Tian Jianjun, along with MCA representative Pung Wai Hung.

Prof Sun was also given an opportunity to go on air with 988 DJ Chrystina Ng.

Prof Sun said he was awed by SMG’s operations.

“All of us enjoyed the tour as it gave us an insight into the workings for print, online and radio stations,” he said.

He was also impressed with the daily operations and high standards at The Star.

“We hope to have collaborations together in the future,” he added.
