KOTA KINABALU: Underprivileged children from three charity homes enjoyed a memorable shopping experience thanks to Hibiscus Malaysia, an oil and gas company, which treated them in the lead-up to the Hari Raya celebrations.

The corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative saw company volunteers accompany the children in selecting their own baju Raya and baju kurung to celebrate the festive season with joy.

Held at the Emadira textile shop here on March 22, the event brought together 11 Hibiscus Malaysia employees and more than 80 children from Rumah Anak Yatim Darul Bakti Kota Belud, Rumah Putera Harapan Ranau and Rumah Anak Yatim As-Sakinah, Papar.

This contribution comes from the company staff’s Wakalah Zakat fund in the spirit of giving and togetherness.

The men helped out the boys in picking out their festive ensemble including a baju Raya, songkok and samping while their female colleagues helped the girls match baju kurung with their headscarf.

Hibiscus Petroleum Berhad’s Head of Sabah Operated Asset, Edmund Ang said the company believes corporate success goes hand in hand with community support and social responsibility.

“Hari Raya is a time of joy and unity, and we wanted to ensure that these children feel included in the celebrations.

“Seeing their smiles and excitement was truly priceless,” he said in a statement.

Offshore Hibiscus Malaysia staff members also played their part in spreading the joy of Raya by treating 20 orphans from Rumah Anak Yatim Darul Bakti Kota Belud and 20 thalassemia patients from the Kota Belud Thalassemia Association to a breaking of fast event the same day in Kota Belud.
