Over 170,000 vehicles expected on WCE daily during Hari Raya

PETALING JAYA: More than 170,000 vehicles are expected to ply the West Coast Expressway (WCE) every day over the Hari Raya Aidilfitri period.

Since Monday (March 24), the expressway has already seen a sharp increase in traffic flow, with average daily traffic climbing steadily as travellers hit the road.

WCE chief executive officer Lyndon Alfred Felix said traffic peaks are expected from Thursday (March 27) until March 30.

"Traffic is expected to increase again from April 5 to 6, with projections exceeding 170,000 vehicles per day.

"We are pleased to see more highway customers choosing WCE for their journey home to celebrate Aidilfitri," he said in a statement on Thursday.

In anticipation of increased travel volume, WCE has increased patrols to ensure smooth traffic flow and provide immediate assistance in case of emergencies.

Key rest areas, including R&R Sungai Nyior and various lay-bys, are fully operational, offering essential facilities to ensure the comfort and well-being of all highway customers, he added.

"We encourage all highway users to take precautionary measures and be considerate when driving during this busy period.

"With early planning and adherence to travel guidelines, we can ensure a safer and more comfortable journey for everyone."

WCE users are advised to avoid peak hours, especially on the day before Hari Raya, and use the 'WCE App' for real-time traffic updates.

EV charging facilities are available at selected WCE lay-bys, including SAE, Assam Jawa, Trong and Taiping Selatan.

For the latest traffic updates, follow WCE's official social media channels or download the 'WCE App' from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
